Purpose Since 1965, Blackhawk Human Resource Association has been a professional organization for those in the Human Resource field. The following purpose statement was developed to express our organization’s purpose:
Blackhawk Human Resource Association is a professional organization which promotes and facilitates opportunities for: Networking, Educational Programming, Professional Development, and Information Exchange.
Organizational Structure Blackhawk Human Resource Association is governed by a Board of Directors elected by the membership at large. Duties and responsibilities of the Board are outlined in the organization’s by-laws. The Board is comprised of five officer positions and core leadership area directors.
Benefits of BHRA Membership As a member of Blackhawk Human Resource Association, you will:
- Have the opportunity to attend monthly meetings that inform you of current issues, developments and changes in the human resource field;
- Meet and network with area HR professionals to share ideas, resources and information;
- Further enhance your professional growth by participating in conferences and seminars sponsored by BHRA as well as those on a state and national level by the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM);
- Have the opportunity to utilize the SHRM Learning System and/or be part of a study group to become an accredited HR professional;
- Be part of a nationally affiliated professional organization that is involved in community projects; and
- Be represented at both the SHRM State Council and the National SHRM organization.
Committees Opportunities may arise to be a member of a standing or project committee. These opportunities are emailed out to the membership. Functional areas that may involve committee work include: Programming, Membership & Membership Relations, Scholarship, Workforce Readiness, Website and Special Events.
Monthly Meetings Monthly meetings are usually held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Meeting times rotate between a breakfast, lunch or dinner meeting. The locations of the meetings rotate between Beloit and Janesville and are emailed to the membership, announced in monthly newsletters, and posted ont the website. Each meeting consists of networking time, meals and a program on a Human Resource related topic. Topics on current trends or changes, legislative issues, or common HR issues and best practices provide professional development for our members.
Membership If you are interested in joining a professional organization that will keep you current on the ever-changing human resource field, assist you in networking with other area professionals and offer personal growth, then Blackhawk Human Resource Association is your answer. Membership is open to all individuals regardless of race, sex, religion or national origin, whose careers and interests are committed to the Human Resource profession. Our membership year runs from 8/1/xx through 7/31/xx. We welcome you to join at anytime, but due to the low annual dues, we do not prorate the cost of our membership.
Annual membership dues are $25 for national SHRM Members and $55 for non-SHRM members. We also offer a prepayment option that includes membership and meetings for the whole year - $130 for national SHRM Members and $165 for non-SHRM members.
New membership option this year! Business Membership – An annual $75 fee provides membership privileges to up to four HR professionals in one organization, provided one of those individuals is a SHRM member. Members in this category must meet the professional criteria for membership and will receive all of the benefits accorded to individual members. In addition to the discounted group rate, this membership will allow other company employees (supervisors, managers, etc.) to attend meetings as guests.
